Recycled Christmas Stockings

It has been awhile. Life has been getting in the way, but that will, hopefully be changing soon.
Today I wanted to share my latest project. Christmas stockings! The pattern is from Naptime Crafters,  is simple and easily adapted to change things up.
I thought it would be fun to recycle thrift store clothing to create a variety of stockings. You should have seen my friend's face when I came around the corner at Goodwill with some really homely holiday shirts.
"Don't judge me. These are for Christmas stockings, not my holiday wardrobe."
I am happy with how they turned out.

These green corduroy ones are made from a thrift store corduroy shirt, and I was able to incorporate the shirt pocket into one of them. My future sister in-law, called dibs on these two stockings right away.

One above is made from burlap and men's shirting material, and the other is made from denim and plaid fabric that was left over from my husband's kilt (Halloween costume).
You don't want to know what he wore underneath it.

I know the stocking on the left looks like it is made from a table cloth, but it is actually made from the thrift store shirt my friend was so afraid I was buying to wear.
Now you understand why she was so afraid.
The blue stocking on the right is made from a thrift store western shirt that reminded me of snowflakes and denim.

This last stocking is made from a thrift store sweater. I wasn't too sure how it would turn out. I think it looks very wintry.
Now my friend has asked me to make seven more for her family, so I better get busy.

Black Friday Craft Project 2012

Once again my daughter and I spent Black Friday crafting instead of battling  crowds of shoppers. 
This year's craft was a sock snowman.

I started looking for an appropriate Black Friday Craft project beginning in October. 
Pinterest provided the research venue. The inspiration for this project can be found at the following link:

The blog described using a small white sock for both the face and the hat. We decided to use a white sock for the face, and a holiday sock from the Dollar Tree for the hat.
Some other changes we made; using Puff paint, for the eyes and mouth, beads for the eyes, and holiday buttons for the hat embellishment.
In addition we gave each of the snowmen, a different personality.

 
We watched movies while we crafted and had a wonderful time talking and working together. 
I treasure these times with my daughter, because I know that very soon we may not be able to spend this kind of time together.
Last year, we began this tradition with creating Christmas trees: A Little Fun on the Day After Thanksgiving

We ended up making 22 snowmen and some precious memories at the same time.
